About Us
The Department of Mathematics in Fırat University's Faculty of Science was established in 1975. Since then, it has welcomed many young mathematical scientists who have chosen to acquire knowledge and strengthen their technical skills. Our curriculum encompasses not only theory but also team and individual work on real-world projects. Our department has 18 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors, and 3 Research Assistants. Our department offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs.
The Department of Mathematics conducts undergraduate and graduate education and research in five main disciplines: Algebra and Number Theory, Geometry, Analysis and Theory of Functions, Applied Mathematics, and Topology. These programs aim to develop individuals who possess a deep understanding of fundamental mathematical concepts, can apply this knowledge to interdisciplinary fields, and possess advanced analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. The educational process is supported by contemporary pedagogical approaches and technological infrastructure, and emphasis is placed on equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies to compete nationally and internationally. Students are offered multifaceted academic development opportunities through second major or double major programs (e.g., Physics, Economics, Statistics). Transfer opportunities are also available for students who meet academic and administrative criteria. Various seminars, scientific events, and student projects are organized to support a research-focused academic environment, encouraging the development of individuals with strong research aptitude.
Our Vision and Mission
The vision of the Department of Mathematics is to be an academic unit with national and international recognition, a pioneer in research and development activities, encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations, and achieving high scientific productivity. To this end, the work conducted by our faculty is published in internationally peer-reviewed journals and presented at scientific meetings, continuously enhancing our department's representation on global academic platforms.
The mission of the Fırat University Department of Mathematics is to cultivate individuals who are capable of generating knowledge in theoretical and applied mathematics in line with a universal understanding of science, who adhere to ethical principles, who possess advanced analytical thinking skills, and who are socially responsible. Our department aims to cultivate graduates who will meet the needs of both the academic field and various sectors by supporting the development of qualified human resources.
Our Objectives
The primary objective of the Department of Mathematics is to cultivate individuals with analytical thinking skills and a solid knowledge base in theoretical and applied mathematics. Within this framework, through educational activities at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, we aim to cultivate qualified individuals who embrace lifelong learning, contribute effectively to scientific research, and produce knowledge and technologies tailored to contemporary needs. Furthermore, equipping students with a sense of scientific ethics and responsibility, and developing them into productive mathematicians open to interdisciplinary studies and focused on social benefit, are among our department's primary objectives.
